My First Freelance Boxing Piece

Eastside Boxing, one of the more popular boxing-exclusive websites out there -- by my math, it's in the top five -- has graciously agreed to publish one of my items. It should look familiar, since they ran this post as-is. The headline, I guess, still made sense to them. At any rate, here it is: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=12503&more=1

Congratulations on having one of your posts published. It was an excellent, funny piece.

Thanks, Sean.

Say, and thanks to those stickin' up for me on their comments section. I have to tell you, I didn't anticipate the animosity. I thought I might go uncommented upon, despite Eastside Boxing's robust commenting community. That said, I find the hostility amusing. It IS clear some people didn't get in on the joke. But I kind of miss getting beat up for my words. A few years back, there was a blogger who established a website devoted to attacking the newspaper I worked at. I'm so proud of you! One of my blogs was linked to the Wall Street Journals "The Juggle" and I have to say I was thrilled, although I forgot to check back to see if I had any nasty comments.

As usual I'm not at all surprised that people missed the joke. I know nothing about boxing, but I got it. Then again, I have a feeling you are dealing with a reading public made up in part by thoughtful, analytical, smart ass types like you and partly by a bunch of meatheads who wouldn't know sarcasm if it hit 'em with a one two punch to the brainpan.

congrats, Tim. But maybe you should learn how to hyperlink the story?

Kind thanks to Beetqueen and Indiebass.

You keep criticizing my hyperlink policy, man. But you ain't helping. I could've hyperlinked that one, sure, but it would've been a hyperlink that would have transported you to another page. When you have a moment, do please send instructions -- as you once offered -- about how to hyperlink in a way that delivers the new page in a new tab or window.

Dammrod and Bob, so sorry to post late. This moderation thing is new to me. Thought I'd approved 'em.

Bob: You did inspire that piece, in part. Some of the rest of it was from other commenters, including dammrod, and my own fears.

Dammrod: Thanks, sir.
